– As the murder trial for Joseph Oberhansley, 38, began on Wednesday, prosecutors went into grisly details recounting the stalking, rape and murder of Oberhansley’s girlfriend just before Oberhansley allegedly cut open her chest and ate her heart and brain.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, in September 2014, Joseph Oberhansley, 38, left the dismembered body of Tammy Jo Blanton, 46, in a bathtub in her Jeffersonville home with multiple stab wounds and blunt-force injuries just days after she broke up with him and changed her locks.

Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull told jurors Wednesday during opening statements that “Joseph Oberhansley butchered Tammy Blanton like you wouldn’t kill a livestock animal.”

Mull showed the jury a videotaped interview in which Oberhansley told police that Blanton “really wasn’t all that scared, surprisingly,” as if she knew she was about to die.

Carmichael is facing life in prison without parole. Prosecutors agreed to not seek the death penalty so long as Oberhandley’s attorneys don’t use insanity as a defense.

However, while the defense was not allowed to present evidence pertaining to Oberhansley’s sanity, his defense attorneys argued whether or not someone who “eats the brain and heart of his ex-girlfriend is thinking right.”

“Her chest had been cut open. The heart was removed. The heart was eaten,” said Oberhansley’s defense attorney Bart Betteau.

On Thursday, Clark County Circuit Judge Vicki Carmichael declared a mistrial after a witness called by prosecutors on the first day of testimony brought up the defendant’s past drug use and time in prison.

Carmichael said that information could have prejudiced the jury.

According to the Journal, the witness was a close friend of Blanton said that Blanton had told her in a previous conversation that drugs motivated him to commit the gruesome acts.

“A simple admonishment to disregard (the comments) would be insufficient and certainly would not clear the prejudices created by the witness’ testimony,” said Carmichael.

The jury had been selected in Hamilton County, about 120 miles (193 kilometers) north of Jeffersonville, which is a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky.

A new court date set for Sept. 3. A new jury will need to be selected.

15-year-old shoots parents to death, found with violent cartoons, rap lyrics and web searches about killing dad: Cops

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 15-year-old girl who investigators say searched on her phone for “scary movies where kids kill parents” and had rap lyrics about wanting her father dead is accused of killing her parents.

Daejona M. Holmes faces two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence. She will be tried as an adult.

Holmes is accused of shooting and killing mom Kinderly Holmes and dad Brian Starr on April 9 at their home in the 5000 block of Belmeade Road.

Court records say that police found Holmes, 37, and Starr, 38, both shot to death inside their home.

Daejona Holmes reportedly called 911 from a different location and said a robbery had occurred and her parents were shot. She later changed her story and said her father shot her mother, and she shot her father.

When investigators got a search warrant and looked at Holmes’ phone, they found the web searches, rap lyrics and a video of Holmes holding a gun and dancing in her bedroom. They also found a hand-drawn stick figure illustration where one labelled “me” was pointing a gun at another labelled “dad.” A third illustration had a stick figure with X’s for eyes and blood around it.

A witness told police that Holmes called him, saying she needed help. He met her at a McDonald’s on Eastwood Trafficway where she told him her parents had been shot. The witness added he had to talk her into calling 911. She also made nine phone calls with her mother’s phone following the shooting and waited an hour to call 9-1-1.

Court documents show investigators spoke with Holmes on April 9 and again May 11 to clarify her story. During the first interview she said her parents were fighting and she heard a gunshot. She said she went upstairs and passed her father, but they didn’t exchange words, and she found her mother dead in her bedroom. She then said she picked up a gun before walking back downstairs, and shot her dad as he approached her. She said she ran in and out of the house and threw the gun in a nearby yard.

During her second interview she said she had actually gone back into the house twice; once to get her cell phone and another time to get her mom’s cell phone. She admitted to changing her clothes prior to leaving the home and moving her dad’s body close to the front door. She couldn’t explain why she didn’t leave the house upon hearing the first gunshot, why she didn’t call 9-1-1 sooner, or why she made nine phone calls from her mom’s cell phone.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $150,000.

A man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to killing his mother two days after he completed a 30-year prison sentence for killing a neighbor.

An autopsy found that she died from massive blunt-force head injuries.

According to an October 2014 story from Philly.com, Gwendolyn Pratt had recently hosted a welcome-home party for her son.

Gwendolyn Pratt’s brother told the news outlet his sister had been a Resorts Casino Hotel worker going back to 1989.

Her sibling also revealed that upon Steven Pratt’s release from prison, Gwendolyn Pratt took him to an IHOP restaurant.

In October 2014, Pratt told a judge through tears after killing his mother that he was guilty and didn’t want a trial.

In a video filmed at the time by the Press of Atlantic City, the judge told Pratt: ‘Now sir, you have a lawyer? Or you may use a public defender.’

Pratt told the judge: ‘I have nobody.’

The judge also asked Pratt if he knew about the bail amount.

Pratt at the time replied: ‘It doesn’t even matter, sir.’

Sobbing, Pratt said at one point during the arraignment: ‘I’m sorry. I have failed.’

Pratt was 15 when he shot and killed his next-door neighbor in 1984. He was tried as an adult and was convicted of murder in 1986

Steven Pratt, 47, must serve 85 percent of a 25-year prison sentence before he’ll be eligible for parole.

Pratt was 15 when he shot and killed his next-door neighbor Michael Anderson in an apartment building in 1984. He was tried as an adult and was convicted of murder in 1986.

According to court records, Pratt and Anderson argued after Pratt and some of his friends refused to leave an apartment hallway where they were noisily hanging out.

Pratt went back to Anderson’s apartment with a lead pipe, but Anderson took the pipe away from Pratt and bloodied his face, the records show.

Pratt then returned with a borrowed handgun and shot Anderson in the face and shoulder, the court records show. Anderson, who Pratt said acted like a father to him, died days after the shooting.

A Texas teen was apparently so opposed to getting out of bed that he killed his dad who tried to wake him, according to reports.

Samuel Hammett, 19, was charged Wednesday with murder in the death of his father at their Fort Worth home, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Family members said the father, Sandy Hammett, tried to rouse his son from bed Tuesday when the teen pulled a knife on him.

“My son said, ‘Why you sleeping all day?’” his grandmother, Alma Hammett, told the newspaper. “My grandson got up and went nose-to-nose with my son. My son pushed my grandson down back on the bed.”

Hammett allegedly grabbed a knife from his drawer and stabbed his dad to death, according to relatives.

Police responded to the home and pronounced the father dead at the scene.

Hammett was taken into custody at Tarrant County Jail where he is being held without bail.
