Andrew Gillum found in Miami Beach hotel room with suspected drugs, police say

Police say Gillum, who was not arrested, was too intoxicated to answer questions.

Andrew Gillum, who in 2018 came within 34,000 votes of becoming Florida’s governor, was discovered by police at a South Beach hotel early Friday morning in a room with bags of possible methamphetamine and in the company of a man who appeared to have overdosed on drugs, according to a Miami Beach police report.

Police say they were called to the Mondrian South Beach early Friday morning and found paramedics treating Travis Dyson, a 30-year-old Miami man, for an apparent heart attack. They say two other men were in the room: Aldo Mejias and Gillum.

Police say Gillum, who was not arrested, was too intoxicated to answer questions. An offense incident report says that officers found three clear plastic baggies of suspected crystal meth on the bed and floor.

Gillum, a former Tallahassee mayor and Democrat, issued a statement Friday afternoon in which he denied using drugs.

“I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines,” he said. “I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement.”

According to police, Mejias told officers that he gave his credit card information to Dyson to rent the room and planned to meet him Friday evening. When he went to the room after 11 p.m., Mejias said he found Dyson and Gillum “under the influence of an unknown substance.”

Mejias, 56, said Dyson opened the door to Room 1107 to let him in and then collapsed on the bed. He said Dyson was having trouble breathing, so he woke him up. Dyson then vomited and collapsed again, so Mejias said he performed chest compressions on Dyson and called paramedics.

Mejias told police he saw Gillum, 40, vomit in the bathroom.

Police say Dyson was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center in stable condition. They returned to check on Gillum, who was allowed to return home “without incident.”

No arrests were made.

“At this time the incident is not being investigated as a criminal matter,” a Miami Beach police spokesman wrote in an e-mail releasing a copy of the report. He did not explain why.

Gillum, who was mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 through 2018, thanked Miami Beach paramedics in his statement and said he’ll “spend the next few weeks with my family and [would] appreciate privacy during this time.”

Following his loss in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race to Republican Ron DeSantis, Gillum has remained an important player for Democrats in the state. His political organization is overseeing an ambitious push to register or “reengage” 1 million voters before the November election, and he remains among the most prominent Democrats due to a political analyst gig with CNN.

Attempts to reach Mejias and Dyson by phone on Friday were not immediately successful. Dyson told Miami New Times that he has been friends with Gillum “for a while,” but did not know anything about a wedding.

According to public records, Dyson is a registered nurse who lives in Brickell. His Instagram account features selfies in scrubs and a medical coat. The page also features numerous photos of Dyson shirtless and rippled, on the beach, on boats or at night spots with friends, including his fiance.

In Miami-Dade, Dyson has no criminal convictions but was arrested in August on a charge of resisting arrest without violence. He got the charge after he was pulled over for weaving in an out of traffic.

In an arrest report, a Miami Beach police officer said that while handcuffing Dyson, “he began to resist removing his right hand … while attempting to turn around to face me. Mr. Dyson was then pushed on the vehicle and ordered to stop resisting and to place his hands behind his back.”

A ticket for reckless driving and the criminal charge of resisting were later dismissed, according to Miami-Dade court records and his former attorney.

Although the contents of the bags in the hotel room have not yet been confirmed, crystal meth has made a resurgence in South Florida, particularly in Miami Beach, in recent years. The meth, police say, is high-grade product being made by Mexican cartels.

“It’s a very customer-rich environment, with all the different venues, events and parties for people to enjoy themselves,” a Miami Beach street-crimes captain told the Miami Herald in 2017. “Crystal meth will take the average party experience and magnify it tenfold.”

Texas School District Mandates Teaching Kids How to Have Anal Sex

The Austin Independent School District (ISD) school board voted in favor of a sex ed curriculum early Tuesday morning that normalizes LGBT sex acts at young ages and advises the words “mom” and “dad” be eliminated from school terminology.

The school board approved the sex ed curriculum that will be used to teach children in grades three through eight, despite the wishes of many outraged parents and faith-based groups who packed the meeting during which the vote occurred.

As the Statesman reported, outside the meeting, Naomi Wilson chanted in front of parents and pro-family supporters, “Black trans lives matter.” Wilson was arrested and charged with trespassing.

LIVE at Austin ISD opposing radical sex education; leftists try to shut down and take over our press conference. But they did not prevail. Watch and see how it turned out.

David Walls, vice president of Texas Values and an Austin ISD parent, said in a statement the board’s vote “sends a clear message: people of faith and traditional moral values are not welcome in Austin ISD.”

“By passing this curriculum, Austin ISD has broken the sacred trust that parents put in their children’s schools,” Walls continued. “Austin ISD parents have no reason to entrust their children to a school district that weaponizes education to indoctrinate children into the LGBT political movement.”

The AISD school board is allowing parents to OPT OUT, rather than OPT IN, a procedure which means the children of parents who are not vigilant about signing the OPT OUT form will be automatically included in the curriculum.

Texas Values reported AISD abandoned its plans to use Planned Parenthood’s Get Real sex ed curriculum since Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed a bill into law that bans local governments from contracting with abortion providers. The school district subsequently announced a “revised” middle school curriculum.

You can’t make this up folks, AISD swapped out Planned Parenthood’s sex ed for radical LGBT pro abortion Canadian sex ed. It’s so crazy not even we could believe it at first, but check the link for screenshots!https://txvalues.org/2019/09/24/planned-parenthood-sex-ed-not-radical-enough-aisd-proposes-canadian-curriculum-to-indoctrinate-children/

Planned Parenthood Sex-Ed Not Radical Enough, AISD Proposes Canadian Curriculum to Indoctrinate…

Despite continued opposition from parents and concerned citizens, Austin ISD is still pushing forward with radical sex-education curriculum designed to indoctrinate children, as young as the third…

txvalues.org

The family values organization said the “revised” curriculum “is just as radical and inappropriate as Planned Parenthood’s,” and continued:

In fact, despite AISD’s claim to have developed this curriculum “internally,” most of the curriculum seems to come from Canadian pro-LGBT abortion providers. Make no mistake, AISD’s revised curriculum shares the same legal (and moral) concerns as Planned Parenthood’s Get Real.

In the curriculum materials for grades three to five that were shared by Texas Values and PJ Media, teachers are instructed to “use Gender Inclusive Language,” and advised further:

It is important to avoid terms which refer only to ‘male’ and ‘female’ identities when speaking with young children as this can limit their understanding of gender into binaries and can exclude children who may not identify within these identities. For example, when discussing family members or adults they may have in their life, try not to only use terms like “mom” or “dad.” Try integrating words like, “parents” or, “guardians” to include children whose parents might not fit into “traditional” concepts of family structures.

Signaling the tone of things to come, Texas Values reported last week that Austin elementary school Blackshear Fine Arts Academy hosted drag queen David Richardson, aka Miss Kitty Litter ATX, in the school’s library to read to young children.

In a search of Richardson’s background in August, pro-family organization Austin MassResistance found Richardson had been arrested and convicted of prostitution in 1996.

In the grade 6 curriculum, students will be taught to “differentiate between gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.”

A cartoon graphic defines “gender identity” as “boy, girl, non-binary.” Sexual orientation is defined as “homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, pansexual.”

Biological sex is defined as “male, female, intersex,” and gender expression includes “appearance, pronoun.”

In the section on “homophobia,” teachers are instructed to ask students “how gender can be thought of as a spectrum.”

“Explain that sexuality … is neither predictable nor linked to gender identity,” the program teaches. “While it is often assumed that boys like girls and girls like boys, these assumptions are harmful and exclude individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, etc.”

In the curriculum, young children will be taught how to become activists for the LGBT agenda. Sixth graders, for example, will learn to “recognize injustices and plan ways to denounce inequality.”

Students will be taught they should not make “assumptions” such as “boys cannot wear dresses.”

More examples of the curriculum can be found at Texas Values. The pro-family group’s petition opposing the radical curriculum currently has over 7,600 signatures.

Police Arrest And Ban Preacher From Toronto Gay District After LGBT Crowd Mobs Him

27984747032_1fec489a51_o_810_500_75_s_c1Prime Minister Justin Trudeau carries a Canadian flag disfigured with the homosexual movement’s rainbow branding at Toronto’s Gay Pride Parade.

TORONTO, June 6, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — A street preacher arrested for evangelizing in Toronto’s “gay village” was released Wednesday after a night behind bars on bail conditions barring him from “Pride” events and the homosexual district.

Police arrested David Lynn of Christ’s Forgiveness Ministries early Tuesday evening and charged him with disturbing the peace after a crowd protesting his message surrounded him and other street evangelists on the corner of Church and Wellesley Streets.

A full video of the incident posted a seven-minute edited version below:

The edited video shows Lynn using a microphone to declare he is “coming out as a Christian” and asking several people if they will “tolerate” him, but they refuse to engage with him.

“We have people who can’t say they even tolerate me, and I haven’t even said anything yet,” Lynn says as he’s hemmed in and jostled by people holding rainbow flags and pro-LGBTQ banners and signs.

Lynn states he doesn’t hate anyone, that some people hate Christians, and that some people want him to “stay in the closet” as a Christian, as he is followed, elbowed, and yelled at.

“Everyone’s accepted, and that’s what we preach as Christians,” he says. “Jesus died for the sinner…sin is when we violate the laws of God.”

As the crowd spills onto the road and tensions mount, more police arrive on the scene, 680 News reporter Melissa Nakhavoly notes on Twitter.

The video shows Lynn telling the Church and Wellesley neighbourhood’s Sergeant Henry Dyck, who is openly homosexual, he has a right to preach on the sidewalk and objecting to his arrest.

“What did I do?” Lynn asks as he is handcuffed and placed in a police car by at least five officers. “This is against the law. This is against the law … I was sharing the Gospel.”

“We arrested a man for disturbing the peace after he was allegedly yelling derogatory comments,” Dyck is heard saying on the video.

“There were people there that were clearly disturbed and appalled by the comments that were being made. I don’t know what those comments were, or exactly what it was that he was saying,” he states. “And so that man was arrested.”

Toronto Police Services are now investigating whether a hate crime charge is warranted.

“We had a number of individuals who came to the village and one had a bullhorn and they started making comments that were disparaging towards the LGBTQ community,” duty inspector Jim Gotell told CP24.

“Our hate crime investigators are going to be reviewing what was said today to determine if additional charges could be laid,” he said.

“We are asking people if they did make a video of what happened, to please turn it over to us.”

Dyck likewise defended the arrest to CityNews.

“The difficulty becomes when that expression on loud speaker and using screaming and insulting language results in people responding in a negative way,” he said.

“Unfortunately at that point, as you can see, the safety of everybody can be put at risk.”

But Lynn disputes that version of the incident.

“All I said was ‘God loves you, there’s hope for everybody.’ I didn’t do anything illegal, I was within my rights of the law. I didn’t go there to provoke anybody,” he told CityNews after his bail hearing.

Lynn will be in court to answer to the charge on July 10.

Meanwhile, he is barred from in the area bound by Bloor Street, Yonge Street, Carlton Street and Jarvis Street and from locations hosting “Pride Month” events.

Lynn was arrested the same day Mayor John Tory raised the pro-homosexual rainbow flag at City Hall to kick off June as “Pride Month.”

“It is very clear that a bias exists in Canada,” notes a message under the Torch of Christ Ministries video of the incident.

“Christian beliefs are being labeled as hate speech, and hatred and violence towards Christians is being allowed,” it states.

“Assaults against us are overlooked by law enforcement. Christians, you are being discriminated against. This is the truth.”

That won’t deter the Christians from evangelizing, Phillip Blair of Torch of Christ told CityNews.

“We believe that it’s worth the persecution against us,” he said. “We believe it’s worth the arrest. The truth is always going to be a very difficult, complex subject.”

In 2012, about a dozen police officers surrounded Lynn and his team as they preached near the corner of Yonge and Wellesley during the “Pride Parade” and forcibly shut them down.

Trump admin tells U.S. embassies they can’t fly pride flag on flagpoles

The administration is rejecting requests from U.S. embassies to fly the rainbow flag on flagpoles during June, LGBTQ Pride Month, say 3 U.S. diplomats.

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is rejecting requests from U.S. embassies to fly the rainbow pride flag on embassy flagpoles during June, LGBTQ Pride Month, three American diplomats told NBC News.

The U.S. embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil and Latvia are among those that have requested permission from Trump’s State Department to fly the pride flag on their flagpoles and have been denied, diplomats said.

Although the pride flag can and is being flown elsewhere on embassy grounds, including inside embassies and on exterior walls, the decision not to allow it on the official flagpole stands in contrast to President Donald Trump’s claim to be a leader in supporting LGBTQ rights overseas. Trump’s administration has announced a campaign to decriminalize homosexuality overseas and this month issued a tweet and formal statement to “celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made.”

The denials to U.S. embassies have come from the office of the State Department’s undersecretary for management, Brian Bulatao, a longtime associate of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who also worked for him at the CIA. Under State Department policy, embassies that want to fly the flag on their flagpoles are expected to obtain permission from Washington.

During the Obama administration, the government granted blanket permission to embassies overseas to fly the pride flag during June. This year, U.S. diplomats said, embassies were told they can display the pride flag in other places, including inside embassies, but that requests to fly it on the flagpole must be specifically approved. No approvals have been granted.

The denial to the U.S. Embassy in Berlin is particularly jarring because the ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, is spearheading an administration push to end the criminalization of homosexuality in roughly 70 countries that still outlaw it, as NBC News first reported in February. Grenell, the most senior openly gay person in Trump’s administration, has secured support for that campaign from both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

“The President’s recognition of Pride Month and his tweet encouraging our decriminalization campaign gives me even more pride to once again march in the Berlin Pride parade, hang a huge banner on the side of the Embassy recognizing our pride, host multiple events at the Embassy and the residence, and fly the gay pride flag,” Grenell said Friday in a statement to NBC News.

Asked specifically whether the embassy will fly the flag on its flagpole outside the building, just steps from the iconic Brandenburg Gate, embassy spokesman Joseph Giordono-Scholz said only: “The pride flag will be on as many places as it can at the Embassy.”

In Germany, pride celebrations continue into the month of July for a European LGBTQ event known as Christopher Street Day that occurs on different days in various parts of Europe.

Numerous embassies are displaying the pride flag this month in other ways, including the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, which put up a large rainbow banner on the side of the building. It’s unclear whether other embassies may be flying the flag on their flagpoles without having sought permission from Washington.

The State Department in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment, nor did the U.S. embassies in Jerusalem and Brasilia. The U.S. Embassy in Riga, Latvia, referred questions about the flag to the State Department.

The denials by Washington have alarmed U.S. diplomats serving around the world who are LGBTQ, with several raising the issue this week in a private group chat for members of Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies, known as GLIFAA, several of the group’s members told NBC News. The board of GLIFAA did not respond to a request for comment.

After the publication of this story, the advocacy group GLAAD, tweeted, “Remember last week when President Donald Trump was pretending to celebrate Pride Month?”

Trump’s public declarations of support for LGBTQ rights have been sharply criticized by rights groups who say his record since taking office tells a different story.

Earlier this month, a Trump administration rule took effect barring transgender people who have undergone a gender transition or been diagnosed with gender dysphoria from enlisting in the U.S. military. In the U.K. this week, Trump defended that policy by saying that transgender people “take massive amounts of drugs,” apparently referring to hormones.

His administration has also rolled back Obama administration rules designed to prevent health care discrimination against transgender people. And human rights groups have expressed concern that a new Commission on Unalienable Rights announced by the State Department this month to guide U.S. human rights policy, which emphasizes “our nation’s founding principles of natural law and natural rights,” is designed to de-emphasize efforts to protect LGBTQ people and woman.

The news comes as pride celebrations are set to take place in Washington over the weekend, with WorldPride taking place in the U.S. for the first time this year, throughout June in New York.
