Sarah Sanders asked to leave Red Hen restaurant for her political affiliation

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7/AP) — White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders says she was kicked out of Red Hen restaurant in Lexington due to working for President Donald Trump.

Sanders took to Twitter to confirm the incident, and said that she always treats those she disagrees with “respectfully.”

“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for [President Trump] and I politely left,” Sanders tweeted. “Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”

Jaike Foley-Schultz, a waiter at the restaurant, said in a Facebook that has since been taken down that he served Sanders and her family “for a total of 2 minutes” before the owner asked the press secretary’s party to leave.

Del. Ben Cline, native of Lexington issued an apology on Twitter “on behalf of his hometown” to Press Secretary Sanders, apologizing for “the rudeness of one liberal New York transplant,” Cline tweeted.

On behalf of my hometown of Lexington, I want to apologize for the rudeness of one liberal New York transplant (who also happens to be Meryl Streep’s cousin). We hope you will come back and enjoy our area’s true southern hospitality.

Sanders’ treatment at the restaurant created a social media commotion with people on both sides weighing in to provide their critique, including her father, former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

“Bigotry. On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the ‘Hate Plate,'” Huckabee said, quickly generating 2,000 replies in about 30 minutes. “And appetizers are ‘small plates for small minds.'”

On Yelp, a reviewer of the restaurant from Los Angeles wrote: “Don’t eat here if you’re a Republican, wearing a MAGA hat or a patriot.”

“12/10 would recommend. Bonus: this place is run by management who stuck up for their beliefs and who are true Americans. THANK YOU!!!!” said a reviewer from Commerce City, Colorado.

WDBJ7 has reached out to Red Hen and restaurant employees have not commented on the situation.

Three black actresses arrested for using bathroom at Houston’s, T.I. calls for boycott.

It looks like Houston’s is the latest restaurant chain to engage in racist treatment toward black folks after a police officer dragged three black actresses out of the dining destination because they were taking too long in the restroom.

Rapper, actor, and activist, T.I. has called for a boycott of the restaurant chain in response to the incident that landed the women in jail with one of them suffering injuries including a black eye.

Brittany Marie Lucio, Asia’h Sharrell Epperson (American Idol, Greenleaf) and Erica Walker say they were assaulted by an Atlanta police officer, Jay Guzman, who moonlights as a security guard at the restaurant. The ladies reportedly entered the restaurant after it was closed to use the bathroom. The officer admits he grabbed Lucio by the wrist and tried to “lead” her out the back door, but the video footage paints a much more violent picture of the ladies being man-handled and their attorney insists the officer threw them into the bushes.

“We are seriously concerned with the level of force that was used and we want answer to why they ended up in the bushes,” said their attorney, Gerald Griggs.

When asked why his clients refused to comply with the officer’s initial request for them to leave the restroom, he gave a pretty reasonable response.

“You can’t just leave the restroom after you just finish using it. You have to wash your hands. Have to make sure that you have taking care of all of your needs,” he said.

Lucio, Walker and Epperson were arrested and booked at the Fulton County Jail. All three were charged with Criminal Trespass and Lucio was also charged with Felony Obstruction. Their attorney wants all of the charges against them dropped.

“(The) response from Houston’s is very disturbing. This is a very disturbing case and we hope to be able to come to a swift resolution with the charges being dropped.”

Lucio shared photos of the injuries including cuts, scrapes, bruises and a black eye she alleges were inflicted by the officer on social media.

Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR!!!! ACCOUNTABILITY IS MANDATORY!!!! U WILL PAY FOR THIS!!! COWARD!!!! ??????Houstons & Guzman!!!

YouTube Shooter ID’d as Iranian Azeri Vegan Activist Nasim Aghdam!

The shooter who took her own life after wounding four YouTube employees at the video hosting website’s San Bruno, California, offices on Tuesday has been identified as Nasim Aghdam in multiple reports, after being described as a “white woman in a headscarf” earlier in the day.

Aghdam, said to reside in Southern California, had a long history of animal rights activism, and was quoted by the Los Angeles Times at a protest of the U.S. Marine Corps’ use of pigs to demonstrate battlefield wounds in 2009. She ran a series of very similar websites espousing vegan views.

In one video post on video hosting service Dailymotion, she claims to be from Iran in an introduction to a mock appearance on America’s Got Talent.

“There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!” she declared on one of her websites, among one of many statements criticizing the company across her other websites and extensive social media presence, sometimes using the name Nasime Sabz Yeşil Nasim.

In a February Facebook post, for instance, she decried YouTube’s “hidden policy” of “discrimination” and “suppression of truth.”

Aghdam herself had several YouTube accounts, posting dozens of videos espousing a pro-animal rights viewpoint as well as videos of herself dancing or demonstrating exercise moves in front of green screen backgrounds. Her accounts began to be locked shortly after her identification as the shooter, but screen grabs like the one below show content typical of the animal rights-focused videos.

Her websites contain statements like, “Youtube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!” and images complaining about her revenue from her YouTube videos, implying YouTube had been diminishing her earnings:

Aghdam also appears to have maintained at least two Instagram accounts, frequently captioning her posts in her — presumably native — Persian language. She makes frequent reference to Iran and the Azeri ethnic group that resides primarily in Iran and neighboring Azerbaijan.

A post on the website of the “Interfaith Vegan Alliance” refers to her by the name Nasime Sabz, and claims she is an adherent of the Baha’i faith, which is persecuted in Iran, seeming to claim she once ran a “TV show on Persian Satellite.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police say a man opened fire on Louisville Metro Police officers with an air rifle Thursday night, and in the ensuing scuffle, one officer was injured.

According to arrest reports, officers were called to a home on East Kenton Street, near South Brook Street, just after 6 p.m. on March 29, after someone reported that a domestic violence assault was taking place there.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the wife of 68-year-old Oscar Walters, who said her husband had attacked her with a flashlight.

Police say they could see that she had suffered some type of serious head injury after being hit on the head several times. She had to be transported to University Hospital.

At that point, police say three officers went to the front door of the home to try to talk to Walters. That’s when Walters allegedly pointed an air rifle at the officers and opened fire.

Police say the projectiles from the air rifle shattered the glass on the front door and officers had to take cover.

“Air rifles shoot a projectile at 1,000 – 1,500 feet per second,” an officer wrote in the arrest report. “They are used to hunt varmints.”

After firing the rifle, police say Walters came out of the home and they tried to take him into custody, but Walters refused to give up his hands. After a brief struggle, officers were eventually able to subdue him, but not before one of the police officers suffered a fractured right hand.

That officer was taken to Jewish Hospital. According to the arrest report, the injury will require surgery to fix.

Walters was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree assault of a police officer and resisting arrest. He is also charged with second-degree assault in connection with the alleged attack on his wife.

He is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
