SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition following a shooting early this morning on the 400 block of Sterling Avenue.

Police arrived at the scene regarding a shooting call at 12:47 a.m. and found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to his “upper body,” said police spokesman Sgt. Richard Helterline.

The teen was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

Police said there is no suspect information available.

A resident called in that people were running away from the shots on the 300 block of Coolidge Avenue and at least one vehicle sped off after the shots were fired, according to police scanner reports.

The shooting happened in the 300 block of Coolidge Avenue on the South Side.

The 400 block of Sterling Avenue is right next to the 300 block of Coolidge Avenue, where a 15-year-old boy, Loindale Johnson, was shot and killed Oct. 3.

Police said there is no indication at the moment that the shootings are related.

The 14-year-old is the third teen shot since Oct. 3. Earlier this week, a 12-year-old boy, James Springer III, was shot and killed on the North Side earlier this week. Police have made an arrest in that case.

Earlier Friday, a 20-year-old man was shot several times in a separate shooting, police said.

Police said the man arrived at St. Joseph’s Hospital in a personal vehicle with gunshot wounds to abdomen, legs and arm. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.

Police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Ash Street when they learned the victim had been taken to the hospital. The victim told police he was standing on his porch when he was shot, police said.

There is no suspect information in that shooting, police said, which occurred about half a mile from where Springer, the 12-year-old, was shot and killed.
