WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga.– Authorities in northwest Georgia are investigating after a high school teacher was arrested on a variety of charges.
Channel 2 Action Newshas learned Raquel Eleana Spencer, who taught at Northwest Whitfield High School, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student and having heroin on school campus.
Spencer was arrested and taken to the Whitfield County Correctional Center.
She’s been charged with possession of heroin and sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.
Spencer’s arrest is the talk of the town in Tunnel Hill.
“Her doing heroin in school? Yeah, it’s terrible,” said parent Lisa Beavers.
No one from the school district would go on camera but a spokesman sent Channel 2’s Craig Lucie a statement saying the student and staff safety is their top priority.
The spokesman also told Lucie, Spencer has submitted her resignation.
“I never would have imagined a teacher out of all the people you know there’s so many students that go to Northwest and they depend on these teachers and they look up to ’em and it’s just sad,” said Katelin Jenkins, the parent of a student attending Northwest Whitfield High School.
